Men's Soccer Falls In Overtime To North Carolina In NCAA Sweet 16 Flames fall just short of return trip to NCAA quarterfinals in 3-2 loss

Nov. 30,2008 Cary, N.C.- The UIC men's soccer team held a late 2-1 lead and stood just over three minutes away from a return trip to the NCAA Elite Eight, but 13th-seeded North Carolina scored the equalizer in the final minutes of regulation and tallied the golden goal in the 95th minute to send the Flames to a heartbreaking 3-2 overtime loss in the third round of the 2008 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship at a soggy WakeMed Soccer Park on Sunday night. The Flames finish the 2008 season 12-4-6, concluding the year with their second straight trip to the NCAA Sweet 16 and third consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament. North Carolina (13-7-1) advances to meet Northwestern in the quarterfinals on Dec. 6. "First of all I would like to congratulate [UNC head coach] Elmar [Bolowich] and his team," said UIC head coach John Trask. "UNC is a good team. You can see why their program has won a national championship. "I thought we gave a tremendous effort tonight," said Trask. "I have nothing to be ashamed about, and none of our players have anything to be ashamed about. It was a tremendous performance. We were a few minutes away from winning it with our reserve goalkeeper, and that's a compliment to the guys psychologically and to the type of kids we have in this program. "We'll be back," Trask concluded. "We'll be back." UIC was without the services of Hermann Trophy semifinalist Jovan Bubonja between the posts after the junior goalkeeper suffered a clavicle injury in training. Redshirt freshman Taylor Kelliher made his first collegiate start in goal, registering six key saves. Baggio Husidic's unassisted laser strike from a few yards beyond the top of the box in the 71st minute broke a 1-1 tie, and the Flames possessed the one-goal advantage for the remainder of the second half until a failed clearance in the UIC box with 3:28 left allowed North Carolina's Michael Callahan to knock in the match-knotting goal into the lower right corner.

Five minutes into overtime it was Garry Lewis' header into the net on an assist from Brian Shriver that sealed the match for UNC. The Flames lit the scoreboard first on their first goal of the 2008 tournament. Charlie Trout sent in a sharp corner kick in the 19th minute, and Matt Spiess leaped above the scrum in the box to snap a headball into the right corner for the early 1-0 advantage for the visiting side. That lead did not last long, as the Tar Heels struck two minutes later when Kirk Urso corralled a Shriver cross from almost 10 yards in front of goal and kicked in an untouched ball past an empty left side. After the Tar Heels attacked with great frequency in the early moments of the match, the Flames proved to be more possessive and aggressive on the UNC side of the park throughout the heart of the contest. That offensive display by the UIC side paid off when Moriba Diallo's run up the left flank resulted in a great shot attempt that was punched out by UNC keeper Brooks Haggerty and back toward the top of the box, where a North Carolina defender whiffed on a clearance attempt and allowed the ball to bounce to the boots of Husidic, who unfurled a rocket that was only stopped when it reached the back of the net. UIC turned away numerous Tar Heel attacks on target thanks to a variety of stellar defensive plays by Kelliher and the entire backline. Regulation wound down and the Flames' chances of advancing to the Elite Eight appeared to be improving by the second with every clearance, but the hosts' late flurry eventually resulted in a game-tying goal when the Flames were unable to get a ball out of the right side of the box to allow Callahan a good look at the corner to give the Heels new life. The match would head into an extra session, which was preceded by a downpour of rain. That did not stop the offensive push by either side on the slippery pitch, as a pair of bending free kicks by Trout that were on their way toward goal proved to be dangerous near-misses. But the contest ended on the wrong side of the field for the Flames, as North Carolina countered UIC's early overtime attack and Lewis used his noggin on Shriver's left-side cross for a game-ending goal that appeared to initially nick off of a defender. Trask praised his class of seniors for their work in getting UIC to three straight NCAA tournaments and advancing in every one of those postseason appearances. "Tremendous compliments to Pat McMahon, Dan Simek and Alen Husidic for their hard work and contributions in laying the foundation for this program," said Trask. "To see what these young men have done for UIC and how far they have come has been truly special." The match was pushed back to 6 p.m. Eastern from its original start time of 1 p.m. Eastern and moved from North Carolina's Fetzer Field in Chapel Hill to WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary after 18 straight hours of rain caused the officials to deem UNC's pitch unplayable.

Nov. 25, 2008  East Lansing, Mich.- The 15th-ranked UIC men's soccer team advanced to the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship Round of 16 for a second consecutive season after the Flames outlasted fourth-seeded Michigan State in a penalty kick shootout at DeMartin Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The Flames (12-3-6) won the five-round PK session by a 3-2 count over the Big Ten champion Spartans (13-5-2) to advance to the Sweet 16 for the third time in school history. UIC will now face North Carolina in Chapel Hill on Sunday at 12 p.m. CST. For the second consecutive week, 110 minutes of play between the Flames and their NCAA Tournament opponent ended in a scoreless affair despite a variety of chances. UIC outshot Michigan State by a 5-1 margin in the first half, with the Flames controlling play in the wet and cold conditions on the Spartans' pitch during the opening 45 minutes. The host Spartans created their share of opportunities in the second stanza, outshooting the Flames 4-3, with a pair of shots on goal by Big Ten Player of the Year Doug DeMartin that were stopped by Bubonja. UIC created numerous scoring opportunities in the two overtime periods and utilized that momentum into the penalty kick session. Goalkeeper Jovan Bubonja and midfielder Ian Sarachan converted the Flames' first and second penalty kick attempts. Bubonja would keep the Flames in good standing after stopping the first-round shot by DeMartin, and after a pair of successful Spartan tries he turned away the hosts' fourth attempt by Zac Scaffidi. Charlie Trout, who was unable to connect on a clinching penalty kick during last weekend's first-round PK session against Dayton, put the Flames ahead with a laser-like boot in the fifth round of the shootout. Josh Rogers would take would take the fifth-round kick for the Spartans, and it went wide left to end the affair in the Flames' favor.

"I have so much respect for [Michigan State head coach] Joe [Baum], his staff and his team," said UIC head coach John Trask. "It's not just that Joe's a good soccer friend, he's a very good friend. To see him retire on a day like today, it's bittersweet. "I compliment our guys once again, for coming in and playing quite a game," said Trask. "I felt we created some chances that normally we could have put away." This was the third time that UIC has participated in a penalty kick session in the NCAA Tournament in the last two years, with the Flames advancing after each shootout. - A diving stop by UIC junior goalkeeper Jovan Bubonja in the third round of penalty kicks set the stage for the 15th-ranked UIC men's soccer team to advance past Dayton in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship at Flames Field on Friday night. The Flames (12-3-5), who won the PK shootout 3-1 in four rounds, advance to meet Michigan State in the second round in East Lansing, Mich. this Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 1 p.m. Eastern/12 p.m. Central. Both teams were unable to find the net after 110 minutes of play despite UIC controlling the possession throughout. The Flames outshot the Flyers (15-4-3) 12-1, including a 4-0 advantage in shots against target, and allowed Dayton's sole attempt to be taken in 89th minute. UIC's best opportunity to score in regulation came in the 56th minute, when Baggio Husidic's shot bounced off the post to miss net by an inch. Dayton keeper Tyler Picard also made four solid saves to snuff out the hosts' chances at goal. So for the second straight year the Flames found themselves needing to win in penalty kicks to advance to the second round, and for the second straight year the Flames made clutch plays on both sides of the shootout. Bubonja, who sets the penalty kick order for the Flames, chose himself to take the first attempt and sent it past Picard to put UIC ahead. Dayton's Simeon Zapryanov converted his chance to even the PK session, followed by Ian Sarachan's successful kick for UIC. The shootout went into the Flames' favor when Ryan Handbury's attempt went wide left, and Husidic knocked his chance in to put UIC 3-1. Then Bubonja made a stop on Florian DeCamps' PK to put the home side just a kick away from clinching, but Charlie Trout's shot was stopped by Picard. That left it up to the Flyers' Zach Weiss, but his shot sailed wide right to clinch the session, and a third straight trip to the Round of 32, for the Flames. "First of all I'd like to compliment [Dayton head] coach [Dennis] Currier and his staff," said UIC head coach John Trask. "They had a great season and they played very well today. Penalty kicks can go either way. I thought we did a lot of good things in the game, but they're extremely disciplined and a fine soccer team. We had some chances, we just couldn't hit the thing over the line. Congrats to them. "As for my team, I'm extremely pleased that we can move on," Trask said. "That's what this tournament is all about. I have learned over the years that you aren't always going to win playing beautiful soccer. "I thought we did some excellent stuff considering the conditions. The opportunity to continue and move on is what it's all about." Last year UIC advanced past Saint Louis, another Atlantic 10 Conference side, in an eight-round penalty kick session in the NCAA first round to spur a historic run to the Elite Eight. The game goes in the books as a scoreless draw, meaning the Flames registered their fifth NCAA postseason shutout in the last three seasons. Eh kad bi didovi i nane mogli da sada vide svoju unucad, koju su prije deceniju-dvije milovali i posmatrali kao malu djecicu da igraju-uce fudbal na bosanskim-podzvizdskim barama. Ta nekadasnja djeca, sada omladinci i buduci ljudi, na ponos, srecu i zadovoljstvo svih nas odusevljavaju publiku naucenim fudbalskim vjestinama leprsajuci zelenim utegnutim travnjacima americki stadiona, obasjani reflektorima kristalne svijetlosti i praceni blicevima sportski novinara vodeci svjetski medijski kuca, pod budnim okom fudbalski strucnjaka i menadzera velikih klubova.

Prerano je davati info za javnost (poslije sinocnje utakmice koju je pratilo nekoliko menadzera americke profesionalne fudbalske lige),  ali po svim relevantnim informacijama i nagovjestajima mozda bracu Husidic (Alen i Baggio) u novoj godini-novoj sezoni ne budemo vise imali priliku gledati na utakmicama u Cikagu. Nov. 6, 2008 Chicago, Ill.- UIC junior midfielder Baggio Husidic (Velika Kladusa, Bosnia/Libertyville [Ill.] H.S.) was named the 2008 Horizon League Player of the Year, headlining the eighth-ranked Flames men's soccer team's haul of league postseason awards that was unveiled on Thursday, Nov. 6. The Flames 2008 league regular season champions who are ranked in the top 10 of three national polls this week, took home all but one individual league specialty award while featuring a league-high five All-League players. Husidic earned three conference awards for his standout season, receiving Player of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year and All-Horizon League First Team accolades. He has scored eight goals and assisted on six others for 22 points. Joining Husidic on the All-League First Team were junior goalkeaper Jovan Bubonja (Belgrade, Serbia/VI Belgrade) and sophomore back Robert Younger (Hull, England/The Read School). Bubonja was also named the league's Goalkeeper of the Year for the second time in his career, while Younger received Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year recognition. Bubonja and Younger have anchored a stout UIC defense that has allowed just 14 goals in 18 matches for a team goals-against average of 0.74. The Flames have also turned in nine shutouts this season. Earning All-Horizon League Second Team accolades were senior back Alen Husidic (Velika Kladusa, Bosnia/Libertyville [Ill.] H.S.) and sophomore forward Matt Spiess (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade Prep). Husidic started all 18 games for the Flames, contributing two goals and three assists while providing stingy play on the backline, while Spiess scored four goals, including three in a crucial two-game span late in the league slate, and assisted on another.
Freshman back Julian Serrato (Boca Raton, Fla./Community H.S.) was honored for his fine rookie season with a spot on the league's All-Newcomer Team. Serrato started all 18 games as the Flames' left back during his true freshman campaign. Rounding out UIC's slew of awards is head coach John Trask's Horizon League Coach of the Year honor. "First of all, congratulations to all the players from the league who were nominated and selected," said Trask. "I know every year it gets more difficult to make these selections. "As for the Flames on the list, I feel that the accomplishments and standout play of Baggio, Robert and Jovan were duly recognized. To see Matt Spiess, who scored some important goals in conference, and Alen Husidic, who has been a standout player for us since arriving, means that many members of this year's group were acknowledged. "My heart goes out to other players who were nominated and, because of the overall strength of our team, didn't get the necessary votes," said Trask about his team's other worthy candidates. Podzvizdjan pozvan u Reprezentaciju Bosne i Hercegovine

Amir Husidic, igrac NK "Krajisnik" iz Velike Kladuse, je dobio sluzbenu pozvnicu za Reprezentaciju BiH ispod 19 godina. Moramo naglasiti da je ovaj momak prvi Podzvizdjan koje je dobio sluzbeni poziv od Reprezentacije BiH, te se nadamo da cemo ga jednog dana vidjeti u reprezentativnom dresu A-Reprezentacije. Reprezentacija BiH ce omjeriti snage sa Reprezentacijom Sloveniji na 28. i 30. august, a onda cemo vas obavijestiti. Moramo napomenuti da je mladi Amir prve svoje nogometne korake poceo u "ABC - Pozdzvizd" sto ukazuje na kvalitet rada naseg nogometnog kluba.

"ABC Podzvizd" dobio nagradu za fair play

"ABC Podzvizd" je ucestovao na 7. memorijalnom turniru "Sulejman Kulovic" u Donjem Vakufu. Na turniru je ucestovalo 8 ekipa, medju kojima i FK Sarajevo i Nogometna Skola "Bubamara." Nas klub je pao u grupu sa Travnikom, Sarajevom i domacim Radnikom. U prvoj utakmici, "ABC Podzvizd" je pobjedio Travnik sa 2:0, da bi u drugoj utakmici protiv Sarajeva izgubio tek u zadnjom minuti. Trecu i finalnu utakmicu, "ABC Podzvizd" je odigrao protiv domaceg Radnika te izgubio sa 2:0. Moramo naglasiti da je "ABC Podzvizd" dobio nagradu za fair play, a ujedno mladi igrac naseg kluba, Ibrahim Husidic, je izabran u najbolju ekipu turnira, sto ukaziva na kvalitet naseg rada.

3. MJESTO ZA "ABC" - PODZVIZD U ITALIJI

Slike sa turnira u Meldoli in Fiori Italija, krajem maja ove godine na kojem su ucesce uzela i djeca FC "ABC Podzvidz" a koja su rodjena 1993. godine i kasnije.Na turniru djeca ovog Kluba su uzela trece mjesto i tako u svoje selo i opicu donijeli prvi Medjunarodni pehar koji im je urucio niko drugi do bivseg trenere Intera i Milana Alberto Zaccheroni.Na taj nacin obogacena je vitrina ovog kluba sa jos jednim vrijednim trofeom.Nogometnu ekipu ovog kluba cinili su:Aziz Husidic-predsjednik kluba, Amir Hadzic-trener, Ferid Kapic- clan predsjednistva kluba i Serif Husidic-clan predsjednistva kluba, te igraci Serif Sadikovic,Amir Cehic, Adis Cufurovic,Jasmin Kantarevic,Aziz Kantarevic,Nedzad Musedinovic,Aldin Velic,Hajrudin Omeragic, Dzenan Kapic, Elvis Dizdarevic, Ale Husidic, Osman Becirevic, Camil Husidic, i Emrah Husidic, te delegacija ispred Opcine Husein Hadzic, Jasmin Husic, Senad Sehic i Dijana Joldzic.

Poziv za ovaj turnir dosao je na ime Kluba i na licno ime predsjednika Aziza Husidica, koji su uz pomoc nasih mjestana u USA i pomoc Opcine organizovali odlazak u Meldolu.

Bitno je napomenuti da je Fondacija "Dont forget me" (ne zaboravi me) znatono doprinijela ovom odlsaku u Italiju. Inace ova fondacija vec duze vremena pomaze mladima ovog kluba u opremi kojas im dobro dodje.

FC "ABC" IZ PODZVIZDA JE DANA 19.07.2007. GODINE ZAJEDNO SA MJESTANIMA PODZVIZDA ORGANIZOVAO DOBRODOSLICUI PODZVOZDJANIMA KOJI SE NALAZE DILJEM SVIJETA, BILO NA PRIVREMENOM RADU ILI PAK DA TAMO ZIVE.

U SKOLPU MANIFESTACIJE POD NAZIVOM "ZAVICAJNA DOBRODOSLICA PODZVIZDJANIMA" MJESTANIMA I GOSTIMA JE PRIREDJEN BOGAT KULTURNO ZABAVNO-SPORTSKI PROGRAM NA NOGOMETNOM STADIONU "MUHO MASIC" U PODZVIZDU. U PROGRAMU JE NASTUPIO PODZVISKI NARODNI PJEVAC HAKO OBIC ZAJEDNO SA JOS NEKOLIKO AMATERA, FOLKLORNO-RITMICKA GRUPA OSNOVNE SKOLE "PODZVIZD", HOR PODVIZD.
NAKON PRVOG DIJELA PROGRAMA NOGOMETNE DELEGACIJE FC "ABC" I NK "KRAJISNIK" USA ,ZAJEDNO SA DELEGACIJOM MJESTASA JE POSJETILA I POLOZILA CVIJECE NA MEZAR HAJRUDINA HUSIDICA-PRIKE LEGENDE KLADUSKOG NOGOMETA I RODENOG PODZVIZDJANINA ,TE SE PRISJETILA DANA U KOJIMA JE RAHMETLI PRIKA IMAO SVOJE USPONE KA SAMOM VRHU.

PO POVRATKU DELEGACIJE NA STADION ODIGRANA JE INTERKONTINENTALNA PRIJATELJSKA UTAKMICA IZMEDJU FC"ABC" IZ PODZVIZDA I NK "KRAJISNIKA" IZ WATERLOOA USA. MANIFESTACIJU I UTAKMICU JE PRATILO OKO 2000 POSJETITELJA, BODRECI IGRACE JEDNE I DRUGE MOMCADI PODJEDNAKO. MORAMO NAPOMENUTI DA SE U NK "KRAJISNIKU" NALAZI SEDAN PODZVIZDJANA KOJI STANDARDNO NASTUPAJU ZA OVAJ KLUB IZ DIJASPORE.
UTAKMICA JE PROTEKLA U JEDNOJ FER I KOREKTONOJ BORBI A POBJEDU KOJA JE BILA NAJMANJE BITNA SLAVIO JE NAS DRAGI GOST IZ AMERIKE.  NAKON UTAKMICE NASTAVILO SE SA DRUZENJEM, IGROM I VESELJEM DO KASNE SATE IGRAJUCI I PLESUCI PO CIJELOM STADIONU "MUHO MASIC" U PODZVIZDU.  ZA POSJETITELJE, GOSTE, UCESNIKE I SVE OSTALE PRIREDJENA SU DOMACA JELA TE BOGAR ROSTILJ OD STRANE NASIH MJESTANA.
 

OVO JE BIO JOS JEDAN DOKAZ DA POZVIZDJANI ZASIGURNO ZNAJU DA ORGANIZUJU SVE VRSTE MANIFESTACIJE I DA U PODZVIZDU UVIJEK IMA BUJRUMA I BILO GA JE.
SMATRAMO DA CE NEKI UVIDJETI DA SU POGRESILI STO SU PODZVIZD PRESKOCILI U OVIM DANIMA TEFERICKIH DANA SA SVIM PROGRAMIMA I ZABAVAMA I DA SU POPGRIJESILI STO ZU ZABRANILI NASTUP NASEM FUDBALSKOM KLUBU NA TURNIRU VELIKOG FUDBALA KOJI SE IGRAO U VRNOGRACU I KLADUSI.

U IME FC "ABC" I MJESTANA PODZVIUZDA ORGANIZACIONI ODBOR "ZAVICAJNE DOBRODOSLICE PODZVIZDJENIMA" ZAHVALJUJE SE SVIM GOSTIMA UCESNICIMA KOJI SU BILI PRISUTNI NA NASEM NARODNOM PODZVISKOM TEFERICU.

F.C. "A.B.C. PODZVIZD" - FUDBALSKI KLUB "AMERICKO BOSANSKI KLUB PODZVIZD" IZ PODZVIZDA je formiran na Osnivackoj Skupstini 20.02.2002.god. na inicijativu Podzvizdana iz Amerike i Bosne. Osnivackoj skupstini je prisustvovalo vise od 30 mjestana Podzvizda, a iz Amerike je prisustvovao Zarif Husidic, koji zivi u Cikagu. Osnivacka Skupstina je odrzana u Zarifovoj kuci kod "podzvizdske kamene piramide" na Kvrkulji - kod Okica bunara na Capregu, na adresi Podzvizd 16.04.2002.godine, u Registru udruzenja gradana Unsko-sanskog kantona, knjiga II pod registarskim brojem 14, upisano je Udruzenje gradana Fudbalski klub "Americko-bosanski klub". Sjediste udruzenja je u Podzvizdu-Kvrkulja, opcina Velika Kladusa...
